Le projet Etno-Fonia d’Emy Dragoï plonge ses racines dans le patrimoine des musiques folkloriques roumaines qu’il réinterprète dans le langage du jazz – entouré d’une formation quasi symphonique. La réunion de ces cultures populaires et savantes produit un cocktail d’explosivité balkanique, qui rappelle avec force l’exubérance des films de Kusturica, la virtuosité des musiques tziganes et le lyrisme du jazz. Une réécriture pleine de talent et de vitalité du patrimoine des musiques traditionnelles dans une facture étonnamment moderne.

Emy Dragoï’s Etno-Fonia project delves into the heritage of Romanian folk music which he re-interprets using the language of jazz – surrounded by an almost symphonic band. The encounter of these popular and knowing cultures produce an explosive Balkan cocktail, strongly evoking the exuberance of Kusturica’s movies, the virtuosity of Tzigane music and the lyricism of jazz. This new depiction boasts talent and portrays the vitality of the heritage of traditional music given an astonishingly modern treatment.
