Jean-Michel Davis est un musicien rare, dont la sincérité artistique n’a d’égal que son parcours musical, qui est d’une grande richesse. Dans This n’ That, le vibraphoniste continue d’explorer les possibilités sonores de son instrument. Avec son quintet (Julien Charlet, Raphaël Schwab, Frédéric Loiseau et Patrick Villanueva) il rend hommage aux grands standards du répertoire jazz et de la chanson française (Weill, Trenet, Gershwin, Gainsbourg) et délivre quelques belles compositions personnelles. La partie vocale n’est pas en reste puisqu’elle est admirablement assurée par Daniel Huck (qui n’a rien perdu de sa verve éclatante de scateur sur Feeling Good) et Juliette Pearl Davis (qui apporte une fraîcheur surprenante à ce répertoire).
