Exilés avant et après la Première Guerre Mondiale, des migrants juifs d’Europe Centrale ont emporté aux États-Unis leurs traditions musicales élaborées. Ils y ont gravé d’éblouissants témoignages de leur musique festive rythmée, dansante, très expressive, teintée par celle des Tsiganes, où l’improvisation précéda celle du jazz afro-américain. Bruno Blum commente ici ces rares, précieux et influents enregistrements authentiques du klezmer moderne, dilué et oublié depuis les années 1940 et qui connait un renouveau au XXIe siècle en fusionnant avec le jazz actuel. Souvent instrumental, le klezmer a connu des virtuoses comme les clarinettistes Naftule Brandwein et Dave Tarras.
