Collectés en 2010 par François Jouffa, ces enregistrements in situ ont été réalisés en grande partie lors de la fête du déroulement de la Grande Thangka (le « Festival de l’Ensoleillement du Bouddha ») au monastère de Tashilhunpo, fondé au XVe siècle par Gendun Drub, le premier Dalaï-lama.
Cette cité de plusieurs temples est un haut lieu de pèlerinage pour les disciples de l’école religieuse Gelugpa, de la secte dite des « Bonnets Jaunes » (dont les coiffes fascinantes ont été immortalisées par Hergé dans Tintin au Tibet), qui est l’une des branches les plus vénérées du bouddhisme.
En complément du disque « Tibet - Le Jokhang de Lhassa » (FA5312 dans cette collection), ce nouvel album permet à l’auditeur d’explorer une tradition mystique séculaire au son des longues trompes tibétaines et des cymbales géantes qui vrombissent dans les montagnes himalayennes, des prières et des joutes oratoires philosophiques des bonzes érudits.

Most of these recordings were collected in 2010 by François Jouffa during the Tibetan Thangka Unveiling Festival (“The Sunning of the Buddha Festival”) at the monastery of Tashilhunpo, founded in the fifteenth century by Gendun Drub, the first Dalai Lama.
With its several temples, this holly city has become an important site of pilgrimage for the followers of the Gelugpa religious school known as the “Yellow Hats” (whose fascinating headgears were immortalized by Hergé in Tintin in Tibet), which is the one of the most revered sects of Buddhism.
In addition to the “Tibet - The Jokhang in Lhasa” disc (FA5312 in this collection), this new album allows the listener to explore an ancient mystical tradition to the sound of long Tibetan horns and giant cymbals that echo in the Himalayan mountains, prayers and monks philosophical verbal sparring matches.
