The very influential calypso first spread throughout the Caribbean and was further popularized by Harry Belafonte. But before it reached the whole world, it formed the popular music of Trinidad & Tobago. Its Golden Age revealed dancing songs that were remarkably well-written, and also artists of international class such as Lord Kitchener or Mighty Sparrow. These champions of authentic calypso created a refined, urban sound that was more basic than the foreign calypso hits it inspired. In this delicious anthology, Bruno Blum (with the help of Fabrice Uriac) has collected some of the genre’s essential classics - in their original versions.
