Cinquante ans après leur premier succès, Los Machucambos, emmenés par les deux membres fondateurs Rafaël Gayoso et Romano Zanotti, gravent un nouveau tour de chant hérité des musiques folkloriques sud-américaines.
Grand prix de l’Académie française du disque 1959 avec “La Bamba”, le groupe ne saurait être “réduit” au succès interplanétaire “Pepito” et aux 7 millions de 45 tours alors écoulés. Los Machucambos racontent avant tout l’histoire des musiques d’Amérique du Sud, de son acculturation parisienne – entre Jazz et Java, Samba et Biguine – et de sa réécriture passée par la catalyse Saint-Germain-des-Prés, où écrivains à l’accent chantant se mêlent à la bohême estudiantine locale, aux Ladys de passage et autres midinettes d’une province lointaine. Outre les titres qui ont immortalisé le groupe, ce disque présente de nouvelles chansons, dans une production à l’acoustique parfaite, dont la reprise de la célèbre chanson de Brel, avec cette facture sud-américaine qui fait toute l’identité de Los Machucambos. Fifty years on from their first hit La Bamba, Los Machucambos, led by the two founding members of the group, Rafael Gayoso and Romano Zanotti, have brought out a new collection of songs based on the South American folk tradition. They do not want to rest on their laurels: First Prize for French record in 1959 with La Bamba and their some 7 million 45rpms already issued. Los Machucambos’ sound is a mix of its Latin roots with the many Parisian influences (jazz, java, samba, beguine) absorbed from the multicultural bohemian atmosphere of Saint-Germain-des -Prés where writers and singers mingled with the local student population, prostitutes and girls from the provinces. In addition to the titles that made the group famous this CD, in an accoustically perfect presentation, introducessome new songs, including a cover of the well-known song by Jacques Brel,in the South American style that was the hallmark of Los Machucambos.
